The head of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAlister, said he would recommend to EU leaders to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership at the summit on June 23-24. “In our recommendations to the EU Council and the High Representative, we evaluate EU initiatives in this area and provide concrete proposals for moving forward. We have formed eight key points that should be taken into account during the meeting of the European Council on June 23-24, as well as at the next NATO summit in Madrid on June 29-30,” McAlister said.

During her visit to Kyiv on April 8, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen handed over to President Volodymyr Zelensky a questionnaire on Ukraine's compliance with the Copenhagen criteria - this is a necessary step to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership.
