The European Commission recommended on Friday to give Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership. This decision was unanimously adopted by the board of commissioners chaired by Ursula von der Leyen, euronews reports. At the moment, this is just the opinion of Brussels. The final word on this issue remains with the capitals of all 27 EU countries. The European Parliament will vote at the end of the process. The day before, the granting of candidate status to Ukraine was supported by the leaders of France, Germany and Italy, who were in Kyiv. They warned the Ukrainian leadership that the road to full membership would be a long one. During this official visit, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi declared that Ukraine belongs to the European family. EU leaders will consider her application for membership at the end of next week at a meeting in Brussels.
